Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Asserts Successful Implementation of Loan Waivers for Farmers

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks about pending loan waivers for farmers in the state. Reddy assured that the crop loan waiver scheme is being effectively executed. He expressed his surprise at Modi's comments, stating they do not reflect the actual situation in Telangana.

Revanth Reddy Defends Telangana Loan Waivers

Reddy highlighted that every crop loan under Rs 2 lakh has been fully waived, as promised by the government. This initiative benefited 22,22,067 farmers and involved a total amount of Rs 17,869.22 crore. He described it as the largest farm loan waiver since Telangana's formation.

Loan Waiver Implementation

The Chief Minister mentioned that the state plans to extend waivers to farmers with loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh once they settle amounts above this threshold. He emphasised that this initiative underscores their commitment to farmer welfare and hopes it serves as a model for other states.

In a letter addressed to Modi, Reddy requested the Prime Minister's full cooperation and guidance in promoting agricultural welfare in Telangana. He reiterated his belief in the Congress Guarantee as a "Golden Guarantee" for farmers.

Political Context and Future Plans

During rallies in Maharashtra on October 5, Modi claimed that people in Telangana are still awaiting loan waivers. He also criticised the Congress government in Karnataka for halting irrigation projects initiated by the BJP. Meanwhile, Reddy is scheduled to visit Delhi on Monday for a meeting organised by the Union Home Ministry on left-wing extremism.

While in Delhi, Reddy is expected to meet leaders from the All India Congress Committee (AICC). This visit aims to discuss various issues and strengthen political ties at the national level.

The Chief Minister's response highlights Telangana's efforts towards agricultural development and farmer support. It also reflects ongoing political dynamics between state and central governments regarding rural welfare initiatives.
