Millions mark 1st Yoga Day

Bengaluru/ New Delhi, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, June 21 joined an estimated 37,000 people on the Rajpath in performing yoga in record-breaking attempt to mark the International Yoga Day.

Participants performed 35 yoga asanas in 35 minutes at a session at Rajpath to mark the first International Yoga Day. The mass yoga session included exercises, pranayam and mediation.

Among the asanas performed were tadasana (palm tree posture), vakrasana (tree posture), bhadrasana (firm posture) and bhujangasana (cobra posture).

8.30 am: In Assam, the state health and family welfare department organised a programme to celebrate International Yoga Day at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium here from 6.45 am onwards.

8.15 am: In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, BJP leaders Om Mathur, Ram Shankar Katheria are among those who attended the yoga day programme at the Agra College sports ground.

In Mathura too, many soldiers and ther families participates in the yoga sessions at a ground in the cantonment area.

In Vrindavan, hundreds of devotees including foreign 'bhakts' of Sri Krishna-Radha participates in the session.
