Rahul Gandhi's hibernation ends! Congress scion plans padyatra in Modi's constituency
New Delhi, Jan 2: 2014 was a worst year for the Congress, but now it seems party is in the mood to start everything afresh in the new year 2015, forgetting all misdeeds and failures of past year.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will soon start a padyatra in Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh. It is being believed that the motive of the yatra is to resuscitate the sagging morale of Congress workers in the State.
Though official confirmation has not been made by the party but a Deccan chronicle report says that the yatra will begin in January from Sarnath where lord Buddha delivered his first sermon.
When asked about why Varanasi was selected for the padyatra, Prajanath Sharma who is district president of the party said, "Varanasi is the political hub of eastern UP and the Congress had put up a spirited fight against Mr Modi in the Lok Sabha elections. Besides, Varanasi is politically, culturally and socially vibrant and each and every activity is minutely noticed".
Already battered by Modi-led BJP in series of elections recently, starting from Lok Sabha to Assembly polls in many states, Congress is completely in a very bad shape.
Experts say that at present, the Congress seriously needs a makeover. They believe that the party is going through one of the toughest phase in the history of any party and needs radical change at every level so that party could make a roaring comeback in next polls. In 2015 one of the important State like Bihar will be polled and Congress will get tough competition not only from re-surging BJP but newly formed Janata pariwar also.
