The summons was issued by Special Judge of the MP-MLA court, Justice Harjeet Singh Jaspal, on July 6, 2023. Gehlot has been asked to appear before the court on August 7, 2023.

Shekhawat filed the case against Gehlot in April 2023, alleging that the chief minister defamed him by falsely accusing him of being involved in a Rs 900-crore credit society scam. Shekhawat claimed that his name did not appear anywhere in the Rajasthan government's probe into the scam.

Shekhawat is seeking prosecution of Gehlot under the Indian Penal Code for criminal defamation and appropriate financial compensation for the loss of his reputation.
