"Leave family planning aside and have more kids," says AP CM Chandrababu Naidu
Naidu has expressed great concern over dipping population in his state
"If you don't want to go the Japan way of depending on robots, set family planning aside and have more children. Else, we will have to employ robots and talks to robots and not human beings." This was Andhra Pradesh Cheif Minister Chandrababu Naidu's 'advice' to youngsters in his state.
Naidu was speaking at a Teachers' day event on Monday evening when he highlighted the dipping population in Andhra Pradesh. His statement, however, led to a controversy with opposition parties pulling up Naidu. Addressing a gathering on Monday, Naidu spoke on why there was a need to 'create balance' in the state. "Educated youth do not want to have more than one kid. Yes, we successfully curbed population explosion a decade ago but we need to create a balance now. Youngsters think it is a stress to have more kids. If there is an imbalance, we will also go the Singapore and Japan way and have robots to work and talk to," he said.
Since 2015, Chandrababu Naidu has spoken on the need for increasing population multiple times. He had urged people to set family planning aside and have more kids to stop a 'China-like' situation in 2016. The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh are, however, not amused. Congress has raised questions over what Naidu's government intends to do to provide quality education and employment if there is an increase in the population.
