Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel Addresses Law and Order Improvements and Women's Safety Concerns

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, recently commented on the state's law and order situation. She acknowledged improvements but noted that it is not yet completely safe for women. She expressed hope for a future where women could debate in Parliament while their husbands manage household duties.

Governor Patel on UP Law and Order for Women

Addressing the issue of women's rights, Patel highlighted that even though women hold positions like gram pradhans in Panchayats, men often make decisions. She ensures that women pradhans occupy their designated seats during events, acknowledging those who make independent decisions.

Women's Safety and Empowerment

Patel's remarks were in response to questions about societal and political attitudes towards women following the passage of the women's reservation bill. She contrasted the current situation with the past when women felt unsafe after 5 pm. She noted improvements under the BJP government but admitted more work is needed for complete safety.

The Governor refrained from commenting on temple-mosque disputes in the state. During an interaction, she defended her speech at a convocation event where she credited Vedic-era sage Bharadwaj with conceptualising aircraft, rather than the Wright Brothers.

Historical Contributions and Education

Patel cited scriptures mentioning Maharishi Bharadwaj's contributions to ancient discoveries. She referred to a 2015 research paper presented at the Indian Science Congress, which claimed Shivkar Bapuji Talpade flew a machine over Chowpatty in 1895, predating the Wright Brothers by eight years.

The paper also suggested that aeroplanes existed in India 7,000 years ago, capable of inter-country and interplanetary travel. When asked about higher education and student migration from UP to states like Maharashtra and Karnataka, Patel acknowledged improvements but said a full turnaround would take five years.

Higher Education Developments

She highlighted that seven UP universities have achieved A++ ratings from NAAC, four received A+, and one got an A grade. Sixteen universities are now ranked higher in the National Institute of Ranking Framework 2024.

Patel mentioned her ongoing discussions with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about public concerns, which are addressed promptly. Her comments reflect ongoing efforts to improve both women's safety and educational standards in Uttar Pradesh.
