Kupwara, Akhnoor Witness Fresh Firing as Pak Violates Ceasefire For 5th Night; Indian Army Responds Firmly

For the fifth consecutive night, Pakistani forces engaged in unprovoked small arms firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting areas near Kupwara, Baramulla, and Akhnoor. Indian Army officials confirmed that their troops responded "in a measured and effective manner" to the latest provocation.

The incident occurred during the night of April 28-29, further escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in the aftermath of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including a Nepali national.

Kupwara Akhnoor Witness Fresh Firing as Pakistan Violates Ceasefire for Fifth Consecutive Day Along LoC

"During the night of 28-29 April 2025, Pakistan's Army initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC opposite the Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnoor sector," the Indian Army said in a statement. "Our forces responded proportionately and effectively."

This marks the fifth straight night of firing from Pakistan's side since Thursday, with no reported casualties so far.

In response to the Pahalgam massacre, India last week announced strong diplomatic and strategic measures against Pakistan. These included suspending the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Attari border crossing, and expelling Pakistani military officials posted in India.

Pakistan, reacting to India's actions, warned of withdrawing from all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement that underpins the Line of Control's legitimacy.

India Blasts Pakistan at the United Nations

Meanwhile, at the United Nations, India mounted a sharp diplomatic offensive against Pakistan. Ambassador Yojna Patel, India's Deputy Permanent Representative, cited a recent televised interview in which Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, openly acknowledged Pakistan's history of supporting and financing terrorist outfits.

Speaking during the launch of the Victims of Terrorism Association Network (VOTAN) at the UN, Patel stressed that Asif's confession was "no surprise" to the international community and exposed Pakistan as a "rogue state" responsible for fueling terrorism across the world.

Highlighting Asif's remarks, Patel said, "The global community can no longer afford to overlook Pakistan's admitted involvement in training and supporting terror groups."

As the situation remains tense, calls for de-escalation have been issued by several global powers, including the United States and China.
