Congress's Kumari Selja Open to Assembly Polls Bid, Signals New Strategy

Kumari Selja, Congress general secretary and MP from Sirsa, hinted at her willingness to contest the upcoming October 1 Assembly elections. She expressed this desire earlier and reiterated it recently, stating, "This was my desire earlier and even now," when asked about her previous interest in state elections before being elected as an MP from Sirsa.

Selja Eyes Assembly Polls

Congress Leaders Criticise BJP's Governance

During the Congress Sandesh Yatra, Selja was accompanied by Randeep Singh Surjewala, a former Haryana minister. Surjewala claimed that the BJP would be ousted in the upcoming assembly elections and reduced to single digits. He stated, "The final blow to BJP's misrule will be dealt by the people on October 1."

Selja, known for her opposition to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, mentioned that her candidacy for the Lok Sabha polls from Sirsa was decided by the party high command. She added that she would adhere to their decision regarding the assembly elections as well.

Public Support for Congress

Surjewala asserted that the people of Haryana are ready for a change and want a Congress government. He said, "The people of Haryana including farmers, labourers, women, employees are fed up with BJP's misrule." He also indicated that the central election committee would decide on the candidates and hinted at good representation for the youth.

Selja echoed these sentiments, highlighting the overwhelming public support for Congress. "People want a Congress government," she said. Both leaders criticised the BJP for failing to develop the state during its decade-long rule.

Earlier in Karnal, despite bad weather, Selja and Surjewala paid tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 80th birth anniversary. They also led a roadshow with Congress workers, demonstrating their commitment and connection with the public.

As the election date approaches, both leaders emphasised that Haryana's citizens are eager for change. The Congress party aims to capitalise on this sentiment to secure victory in the assembly elections.
