Kumaraswamy, Shah, Nadda Meet in Delhi
Former Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamys meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief J P Nadda in Delhi has sparked rumors of JDS joining the BJP-led NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) state president H D Kumaraswamy revealed that he had a significant meeting in New Delhi with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president J P Nadda. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Discussion on State Politics and Alliance
Kumaraswamy, accompanied by his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy (JDS youth wing state president) and former MP Kupendra Reddy, engaged in a comprehensive discussion with Shah and Nadda for over 45 minutes. The meeting covered various aspects of state politics, including seat sharing and the potential for an alliance between the JDS and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Official Entry into NDA and Seat Allocation
Kumaraswamy disclosed that Home Minister Shah expressed his intention to discuss the formal process of JDS joining the NDA and the allocation of seats after the completion of the consecration ceremony for the Rama temple in Ayodhya. The ceremony is expected to take place in the presence of BJP national president Nadda.
Shared Objective: NDA Victory and Modi's Re-election
During the meeting, there was a unanimous consensus among the leaders that the NDA should secure victory in all 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that Narendra Modi continues as the Prime Minister of India.
Anti-Incumbency Wave against Congress Government
Kumaraswamy highlighted the strong anti-incumbency sentiment prevailing against the Congress government in Karnataka, despite it coming to power only a year ago. He discussed strategies to effectively communicate the failures of the state government to the public.
JDS-BJP Alliance and Past Electoral Performance
The JDS officially joined the NDA in September 2022 following a meeting between H D Kumaraswamy, son of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, and Home Minister Shah and BJP president Nadda in New Delhi. Both parties have expressed their commitment to contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka together.
In the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, the JDS faced a setback, winning only 19 seats out of 224. The Congress secured 135 seats, while the BJP won 66 seats.
