Kumar Sanu's Deepfake Video Goes Viral, Shows Him Singing For Ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan; Singer Raises Flag

Indian vocalist Kumar Sanu recently became the target of an AI-generated video on social media, falsely depicting him singing about freedom for Imran Khan. The singer has firmly denied these claims, stating he never attended any concert or sang for Pakistan's former Prime Minister. He urged the Indian government to take swift action against those responsible for circulating the misleading video.

The controversial video, which surfaced on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), purportedly shows Kumar Sanu at a party singing in support of Imran Khan. The manipulated audio features lyrics like, "Imran Khan ko azaad karaenge, wazir azam banayenge. Zulm ke khilaaf awaaz uthayenge, naya Pakistan hum banayenge." This translates to, "We will free Imran Khan and make him the Prime Minister. We will raise our voices against injustice and form a new Pakistan."

AI-Generated Video Sparks Outrage

On Sunday, Kumar Sanu addressed the issue on Instagram by sharing a screengrab from news agency PTI debunking the rumours. He wrote, "I want to clarify that I have never sung any song for Pakistan's former Prime Minister. The audio circulating on Facebook is not my voice-it has been created using AI. Some people are trying to defame me, and that's why I want to tell my fans that this news is fake, a lie!"

The singer also highlighted the misuse of technology in his post. He urged people to stop spreading misinformation and called for immediate action from the Indian government to prevent such abuses of AI and deepfake technology. He added, "This is a serious misuse of technology, and I urge the Government of India to take immediate action to prevent the abuse of AI and deepfake technology. Let's stop the spread of misinformation." His post included a folded hands emoji and the hashtag #fakenews.

Kumar Sanu's Musical Journey

Kumar Sanu has had an illustrious career since his debut in the late 80s. He has sung in multiple languages including Hindi, English, Marathi, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Punjabi, Oriya, Chhattisgarhi, Urdu, Pali, and Bengali. Some of his most memorable hits include "Chura Ke Dil Mera" from Main Khiladi Tu Anari,"Ladki Badi Anjani Hai" from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai," and "Aap Ka Aana Dil Dhadkana" from Kurukshetra.

The incident has raised concerns about the growing misuse of AI technologies like deepfakes in spreading false information. As these technologies become more sophisticated, they pose significant challenges in distinguishing between real and fake content online.

Kumar Sanu's call for action highlights a broader issue affecting many public figures today-how easily their images and voices can be manipulated through advanced technology. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information before believing or sharing it on social media platforms.

The singer's proactive stance against this misinformation campaign underscores his commitment to maintaining his integrity and reputation in an era where digital deception is increasingly prevalent.
