Kovind insulted Nehru, Gandhi, alleges Congress; govt slams opposition claims

Congress accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) insulted Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru.

New Delhi, July 26: The Union Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday slammed INC's Anand Sharma for "dragging" Mahatma Gandhi into the Zero Hour in the ongoing Monsoon session of the Parliament.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice following uproar over Congress MP and former Union minister Anand Sharma's objection to President Ram Nath Kovind's speech. Sharma had questioned why Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first PM, was not included in the speech and said Mahatma Gandhi was compared with Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

Replying to Sharma's comment, the minister said, "You can't be running a Zero Hour only for the television cameras."

Jaitley then urged the deputy chairman to expunge Sharma's speech for being irrelevant.

In reply to the Jaitley's remarks, Ghulam Navi Azad said, we raise issues that affect people and not for television camera.
