Kota Building Collapse: Tragic Fate of a Guard

A tragic incident occurred in Kota, Rajasthan, on Tuesday afternoon when a two-storey building in the Anantpura area came crashing down, resulting in the critical injury of one of the guards, who later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The cause of the collapse, which took place in Deendayal Nagar, is yet to be determined, but ongoing construction work on the sides of the house is suspected to have played a role, according to Circle Officer DSP Harshraj Singh.

Rescue Operation and Aftermath

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kota Municipal Corporation and civil defence teams swiftly launched a rescue operation. The 45-year-old guard, identified as Jugdish Sharma, was rescued in an injured condition, while no other individuals were reported to be trapped in the debris, which has been almost entirely removed, as confirmed by Kota City SP Sharad Choudhary to the media.

Despite the rescue efforts, Sharma's injuries proved to be too severe, and he passed away in the evening at New Medical College Hospital, as reported by CO Singh. The deceased hailed from the Deikheda area in Bundi district, and he and his wife Santosh were employed as guards in the collapsed building.

Sequence of Events

Santosh, who was also present in the house at the time of the collapse, managed to escape unharmed as she quickly ran out upon feeling the building shake. Tragically, Sharma was asleep and became trapped in the debris.

The body of the deceased has been placed in a mortuary, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday morning.

Building Details and Evacuation

The collapsed building, owned by one Gagendra Singh, reportedly once served as student housing but had been vacant for a considerable period. As a precautionary measure, the house adjacent to the collapsed building was also evacuated, and no other individuals are believed to be trapped in the debris, as confirmed by Kota District Collector Ravindra Goswami.

The sudden collapse of the building has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of Jugdish Sharma. The authorities are thoroughly investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collapse and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
