Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: CBI Finds No Evidence Of Gang-Rape, Accused Sanjay Roy Acted Solo
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out gangrape in the death of a Kolkata doctor last month, with evidence pointing to only Sanjay Roy, who has been arrested, as being involved in the horrific rape and murder at RG Kar Hospital, according to sources.
The investigation is in its "final stages," and the agency, which was given the case by the Kolkata High Court despite opposition from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is expected to file charges soon.

The CBI is under pressure from Chief Minister Banerjee, who has faced criticism from Opposition and civil society over the gruesome crime, reported NDTV.
She recently demanded an update on the investigation, stating, "I asked for five days... but the case was sent to CBI. They don't want justice. They want delay. It has been 16 days, where is justice?"
Her colleague, state minister Bratya Basu, also voiced concerns, saying, "23 days have passed... there is no progress report from CBI. We demand a detailed report."
The CBI has reportedly sent a medical report, which includes DNA evidence, to experts at AIIMS in Delhi, and they are awaiting the doctors' final opinion.
So far, over 100 statements have been recorded, and 10 polygraph tests have been conducted, including two of the former hospital chief, Dr. Sandip Ghosh.
Ghosh, who resigned on "moral grounds" shortly after the doctor's murder, has been arrested, but his charges are unrelated to the rape-murder case.
Instead, he faces allegations of financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital, with accusations of selling unclaimed corpses, trafficking biomedical waste, and accepting commissions from suppliers.
He has since been suspended by both the Bengal government and the Indian Medical Association. The CBI has also arrested three others, including a security guard, and recently raided Dr. Ghosh's house again.
The case has sparked nationwide protests and significant media coverage. Claims of conspiracy, including gangrape allegations, have been made, but these have been discredited by the CBI investigation.
The doctor's family has also accused the police of attempting to bribe them to cover up the murder, and said they were forced to cremate her body.
"About 300 cops surrounded us... they created such a situation," her father said.
The state government has denied these allegations, accusing opposition parties of spreading false rumors.
The Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognisance of the case, with a hearing underway led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
The CBI is expected to file a status report with the Calcutta High Court on September 17.
