Kolkata Police Requests Public Help To Identify Suspects In Hospital Vandalism

The Kolkata Police have released over 70 photos on social media, highlighting more than 50 individuals suspected of vandalising RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident is linked to the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor last week. The police are seeking public assistance in identifying suspects.

Unidentified miscreants entered the state-run hospital premises shortly after midnight on Thursday. They vandalised parts of the facility where the body of the woman doctor was found. This occurred amid protests by women against the horrific crime.

Kolkata Police Seek Public Assistance

The Kolkata Police shared a Facebook post featuring photos of suspects involved in the vandalism incident at the hospital. The post read, "Information wanted: Anyone who can help identify the individuals circled in red in the images below is requested to do so, either directly to us or through your local PS."

Around 40 people, posing as protesters, entered the hospital and damaged various sections including the emergency department, nursing station, and medicine store. They also destroyed CCTV cameras and ransacked a stage where junior doctors had been demonstrating since August 9.

Healthcare Services Disrupted

Healthcare services in West Bengal have been paralysed for seven consecutive days as junior doctors continue their strike. They demand justice for their colleague and better security at their workplace. The closure of emergency and outpatient departments has caused significant distress among patients.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers questioned five doctors from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. This included its former medical superintendent-cum-vice-principal (MSVP), principal, and head of the Chest Department where the victim's body was discovered.

CBI Investigation Progress

The CBI also interrogated the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, which has jurisdiction over the hospital. Investigators have requested details of Civic Volunteer Sanjay Roy's call records and mobile tower location; he was arrested following the discovery of the victim's body last Friday.

A CBI team visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to interview intern doctors, nurses, and others present on the night of the incident. They also visited the residence of the deceased doctor to speak with her parents as part of their investigation.

Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case

A postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital while on duty on August 9. Her semi-naked body was found that morning in a seminar hall at the government-run hospital in Kolkata. A civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with this crime.

The Calcutta High Court ordered that the investigation be transferred from Kolkata Police to CBI following this incident. The investigators noted when her parents received a call from the hospital informing them about their daughter's death.

The officers also asked her parents about their daughter's friends and whether she had complained about any issues at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where she worked as a postgraduate trainee doctor.
