Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: What Did Sanjay Roy Do Hours Before The Crime?

Hours before allegedly raping and murdering a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy spent time drinking with a friend. Roy reportedly confessed to the crime during a CBI lie-detector test.

When questioned about his activities on the night of the crime, Roy told the agency that he visited two red light areas but did not engage in sexual activity. He admitted to molesting a woman on the street and later video-called his girlfriend, asking her to send nude photos. These claims have not been independently verified.

A psychoanalytical profile created by the CBI earlier this month described Roy as a pervert with an addiction to pornography, and an official mentioned he exhibited what was termed as "animal instincts."

Roy arrived at RG Kar Hospital on the evening of August 8 to inquire about his friend's brother. At 11:15 PM, he and his friend went out drinking, first visiting the Sonagachi red light area and then the Chetla red light area in South Kolkata, where they reportedly molested a girl. While his friend engaged in sex in Chetla, Roy waited outside, talking to his girlfriend.

Roy returned to the hospital and went to the trauma center on the fourth floor. At 4:03 AM, CCTV footage showed him moving through the corridor of the seminar hall.

After the alleged crime, Roy visited his friend's house and later met with Kolkata police personnel, Anupam Dutta.

On August 9, the victim was found raped and murdered in the seminar hall where she had gone to rest. Her autopsy revealed 25 internal and external injuries.

According to reports, Roy initially admitted to the crime but later reversed his confession, claiming innocence in court. He also told the CBI he was innocent and that the victim was already dead when he entered the seminar hall, although authorities believe he was attempting to mislead the investigation.

The police have conducted polygraph tests on various individuals, including several RG Kar doctors, as part of the ongoing investigation.
