Khurshid Bhat and his role in Udhampur attacks
New Delhi, Aug 22: Khurshid Bhat is an operative of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba who hails from Kashmir and actively supports militant activities. Bhatt who was arrested yesterday for allegedly providing tactical support to the terrorists who carried out the Udhampur attack is currently being questioned by the National Investigation Agency.
Who is Khurshid Bhat?
Khurshid Bhatt is the one who transported Noman and Mohammad Naved to Udhampur. Bhatt who also goes by the alias Surya is aged 35 years and is a resident of Chursu, Bhattpura distt. Awantipura of Jammu & Kashmir.
He was involved in providing tactical support (he took the terrorist to Jammu for conducting reconnaissance and transported them). The NIA says that he had played a major role which helped the terrorists carry out the Udhampur attack.
Khurshid has a record of being actively involved in supporting terrorist of Lashkar-e-Tayiba and several cases were registered against him. He was also involved in dealing of drugs and narcotics. For that he was in jail for more than two and half years, NIA officials also say.
Intelligence alert:
The NIA's investigation into the case has been revealing several details. While Naved has been spilling the beans regarding the attack, the NIA has also learnt that the entire operation was handled by one Abu Qasim. The NIA is also on the look out for two more terrorists Zargham and Abu Okasha who are also being handled by Qasim.
An intelligence alert has been sounded in Kashmir, Punjab and Delhi as these men may look to strike in these places. An NIA official says that the photographs of these terrorists has already been released and they are confident of nabbing them soon.
