Kerala: Jilted lover sets self and woman on fire; both succumb to burn injuries
Jilted lover sets woman and self ablaze at a medical institute in Kottayam, Kerala. Both succumbed to burn injuries.
Kottayam, Feb 3: A 21-year-old medical student met with a horrific end, after her alleged ex-boyfriend set her on fire in Kottayam, Kerala, on Wednesday. Then the 26-year-old man set himself ablaze too. Both succumbed to their injuries on later in the day, say reports.
The woman, identified as Reshmi, was attacked as she allegedly refused the man's (identified as Adarsh) advances.

What came as a shocker was the fact that the entire incident happened inside a college campus, and her fellow students and staff members witnessed the entire crime 'silently'.
Adarsh, who was also a former medical student, entered Reshmi's classroom and poured kerosene on the woman. Even before anyone could react, the terrified girl ran out of the classroom, but Adarsh reportedly followed her.
He managed to catch her in the college's library, hugged her and set both of them on fire. While Adarsh fell on the floor, Reshmi is said to have run out even as she was on fire.
Several students tried to save both of them by pouring water on the victims. Later, the duo was shifted to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Adarsh, in his dying statement, told the doctor that Reshmi had rejected his proposals. The girl's parents allege that he had stalked her earlier also. They had filed a police complaint against Adarsh.
