Kerala HC directs govt to include transgenders in female category
The Kerala government will consider all these aspects before it arrives at a reservation percentage.
The Kerala High Court on Wednesday issued a directive to let transgenders write Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) examinations considering them under a female category.
The directive comes after a the Kerala State Youth Commission had decided to direct the Public Service Commission (PSC) to include a third column in its application forms, including those for the one-time registration, to enable transgenders to enter government service.

The youth commission's adalat had decided to direct various departments about the concerns of PSC rankholders. It was decided to seek a report from the department concerned about a complaint that a person was yet to receive a job even after nine months of receiving an advice memo.
But as per an earlier judgment of the Supreme Court, reservation for special categories cannot exceed 50 percent. The Rights of Transgender Persons Bill, 2014, passed by the Rajya Sabha proposes two percent reservation for transgender persons in public sector jobs.
The Kerala government will consider all these aspects before it arrives at a reservation percentage.
