Kerala Government Takes Steps to Unify Palliative Care Systems Across the State
The Kerala government has decided to integrate all palliative care systems across the state. This includes those managed by the Health, Social Justice, and Local Self Government departments. The decision was made during a high-level meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with creating a blueprint for this unification, according to a statement from the CM's office.

The initiative aims to include all elderly individuals and those bedridden due to illness, ensuring no discrimination. The Chief Minister emphasised that everyone needing palliative care should be included, regardless of their economic status. The Local Self-Government department will spearhead the project, with support from the Health and Social Justice departments.
Volunteer Integration and Registration
A key aspect of the project is uniting volunteers involved in various departmental palliative care systems. Additionally, there will be a registration process for institutions providing palliative care and their volunteers. An appeal system will be set up to address any registration-related complaints, ensuring smooth operations.
Training sessions will be organised for volunteers and nurses to enhance their skills. Meetings involving local body leaders, political party representatives, and major charity organisations are planned. These gatherings aim to disseminate detailed information about the project and its objectives.
The comprehensive approach seeks to streamline palliative care services across Kerala. By bringing together resources and expertise from different departments, the government aims to provide seamless care to those in need. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for all residents of the state.
