Gulmarg Implements Weekend Ban on School Buses Amid Tourist Surge
The Kashmir Tourism Department has prohibited school buses from entering Gulmarg on weekends to manage the influx of visitors. This decision was announced on Tuesday as part of regulatory measures.

Regulatory Measures for School Excursions
An advisory from the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Tourism Development Authority, Gulmarg, highlighted the need for these measures due to the heavy rush of locals and tourists during weekends. The advisory urged private and government schools in Kashmir Division to schedule their excursions on weekdays instead.
Schools are required to seek prior permission from the development authority at least one week before their planned excursion. They can apply via email at [email protected] or by calling 9622500725. The advisory stressed that no school buses would be allowed entry without this prior approval.
Details Required for Permission
The advisory also instructed schools to provide specific details when applying for permission. These details include the total number of buses, the number of students, and the mobile numbers of in-charge teachers or staff members. This information is crucial for managing the flow of visitors effectively.
Additionally, schools are advised to limit their fleet to fewer than four buses per school. A large number of buses can cause traffic jams and congestion due to limited parking space in Gulmarg.
Environmental Sensitivity
The advisory further emphasised that Gulmarg is an eco-fragile zone. It warned that littering or using plastic and polythene in the area is a punishable offence. Schools are encouraged to sensitise children and accompanying staff about these environmental concerns.
"Therefore, the heads of private/government schools of Kashmir Division are advised to plan their excursions on weekdays and not on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) for their own convenience and that of the local authorities," the advisory read.
The measures aim to ensure a smooth experience for both tourists and locals while preserving Gulmarg's natural beauty. By adhering to these guidelines, schools can contribute to maintaining order and protecting the environment in this popular tourist destination.
