Kashmir burning: PM Modi faces ire over having ‘fun’ during his Africa visit
Srinagar, July 12: There is no doubt that both the American President Barack Obama and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi share great camaraderie. The chemistry between the two top leaders was quite visible whenever they met. However, recent events indicate the two leaders function very differently.
Take for instance the case of Obama. The American President cut short his European trip to take stock of the situation in Dallas, where 12 police officers were shot in an ambush recently.
Eleven killed, nearly 200 injured in Kashmir protests over Wani's death
Kashmir has been on the boil ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, who was the poster boy militant, on Friday (July 8) in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag. Reports say death toll in Kashmir violence has reached 32, as clashes between the protestors and security forces continue.
Several fun-filled images of Modi--especially the one where the Prime Minister was seen showcasing his drumming skills in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania-from his Africa visit has gone viral. Modi's critics took a jibe at him for being "insensitive" towards Kashmir violence by engaging in fun and festivities during his African sojourn.
"Kashmir is burning and our Prime Minister would rather tweet about his travels and play the drums," Congress said on Monday (July 11) taking potshots at Modi. The jibe was taken by the opposition party in a tweet posted on the INC India Twitter account.
"Police station has been set on fire , Armed force is been attacked but #NeroModi having fun on abroad tours. Shame !! Shame!!!!," tweeted Manoj Kumar Yadav (@itsmkyadav).
"Obama to Cut Short European trip to visit disturbed Dallas. Modi enjoying in Africa while Kashmir is burning. Difference between 2 leader...," tweeted भयंकर लोग (@BhayankarLog).
"In last 24 hours #PM #Modi has regularly updated about his #Africa tour & also wished #Rajnath on his B'day. But not a whisper on #Kashmir," tweeted Friends of Congress (@friendscongress).
