The auspicious month of Kartik holds great significance in Hinduism. Celebrations like Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepawali are observed during this period. This year, Kartik Purnima falls on November 15. According to astrologer Pandit Kalki Ram from Ayodhya, the period starts at 6:31 am on November 15 and ends at 3:02 am on November 16.
On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is believed to awaken from a four-month slumber. He resumes control over creation, marking an important time in the Kartik month. Another significant day is Kartik Purnima when devotees bathe in the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. They believe this act grants them merits equivalent to performing 100 Ashwamedha Yagyas.

Kartik Purnima Rituals and Beliefs
Kartik Purnima is also known as Tripurari Purnima due to a legend involving Lord Shiva. It is said that he defeated the demon Tripurasura on this day. Additionally, according to Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Matsya on Kartik Purnima. Hence, devotees worship both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva on this occasion.
Pandit Kalki Ram highlights that this year, Gajakesari Rajyoga will form on Kartik Purnima, followed by Shash Raja Yoga. During this time, worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi is recommended. Offering bhog is also part of the rituals as it is believed that deities visit Earth on this day.
Significance of Lighting Diyas
To welcome the divine presence of gods and goddesses, devotees light diyas and lamps around their homes. This tradition symbolises inviting prosperity and blessings into their lives during Kartik Purnima.
The astrologer advises that the most auspicious time for worship or donations is between 8:46 am and 10:26 am. The bathing muhurat is set from 6:28 am to 7:19 am, providing a window for devotees to perform their rituals with maximum spiritual benefit.
Kartik Purnima holds deep spiritual importance for Hindus across India. The rituals performed during this time are believed to bring immense blessings and spiritual merit to those who participate with devotion.
