JDS MLA H D Revanna Arrested in Kidnapping Case Linked to Abuse Allegations

In a significant development from Karnataka, JDS MLA H D Revanna was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on charges related to a kidnapping case that also involves allegations of sexual abuse against his son, Prajwal Revanna. The arrest came shortly after a court denied Revanna's anticipatory bail plea. The incident has stirred political and public discourse, especially with the looming Lok Sabha elections.

JDS MLA Arrested in Kidnapping Case

H D Revanna, a former minister, was apprehended at his father's residence in Padmanabhanagar, Bangalore. His father is none other than JDS supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. The case against Revanna and his associate Sathish Babanna was registered in Mysuru, based on allegations of abducting a woman to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal Revanna in a sexual abuse case.

The police have charged H D Revanna under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including kidnapping for ransom and abduction with intent to wrongfully confine. Following his arrest, Revanna underwent a medical examination before being taken to the SIT office for further proceedings. He is expected to be produced before a magistrate.

The backdrop of this arrest involves two FIRs lodged against H D Revanna and his son Prajwal, who is also the BJP-JDS candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat. The first FIR pertains to alleged sexual harassment, while the second involves the abduction of the woman who is reportedly also a victim of sexual abuse by Prajwal Revanna.

Amidst these allegations, explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna have circulated, prompting the state government to form an SIT to investigate. The controversy has become a focal point in the Lok Sabha election campaign, with both the Congress and BJP-JDS alliance trading accusations.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been vocal in criticizing the handling of the situation, implicating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for not preventing Prajwal Revanna from leaving the country. Gandhi has also demanded an apology from Modi for endorsing a candidate accused of such serious charges. On the other hand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for the cancellation of Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport.

The BJP has sought to distance itself from the controversy, emphasizing that the law will take its course. In contrast, Amit Shah has criticized the Siddaramaiah government for its alleged failure to take timely action against Prajwal Revanna.

This case has not only brought attention to the serious allegations against prominent political figures but also highlighted the intense political rivalry in Karnataka ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 7 across fourteen constituencies.
