Karnataka Government Proposes Expansion of Mysuru City Corporation to Greater Mysuru City Corporation

The Karnataka government has proposed the establishment of the Greater Mysuru City Corporation to enhance urban administration. Public objections and suggestions are invited regarding this expansion, which aims to include surrounding areas.

The Karnataka government has announced plans to expand the Mysuru City Municipal Corporation's jurisdiction. This expansion will incorporate nearby areas, forming the Greater Mysuru City Corporation. The proposal, issued under Sections 3 and 4 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, aims to enhance urban administration and development around Mysuru.

The notification highlights several criteria for declaring a larger urban area. These include a population of at least three lakhs and a population density of no less than 3,000 people per square kilometre. Additionally, the local administration must generate at least Rs 6 crore annually, and over 50% of employment should be in non-agricultural sectors.

Public Participation Invited for Expansion Proposal

The government is seeking public input on this proposal. "All the persons who would like to file any objection/suggestion are hereby required to submit the same within 30 days from the publication of this notification in the official gazette," the notification states. The proposal will be reviewed after this period.

Once published in the official gazette, the proposed larger urban area will officially become the Greater Mysuru City Corporation. This change is intended to support better governance and structured growth in Mysuru and its surroundings.
