17,000 voters are centenarians!

Karnataka has the highest-ever number of registered centenarian voters in the State. According to the data released by the election commission, nearly 17,000 people registered in the electoral rolls have already crossed the age of 100 years. Out of 17,000 centenarian voters, 9,985 are women.

Candidate banned from visiting his own constituency

Congress candidate Vinay Kulkarni, who is contesting from Dharwad can't visit Dharwad, the constituency he is contesting from, following a court-imposed ban. So, his wife Shivaleela filed the nomination on his behalf.

Kulkarni is reaching out to voters through video messages. He was arrested in connection with the murder of BJP leader and Zilla Panchayat member Yogeshgouda Goudar in June 2016.

Shamanur Shivashankarappa oldest candide

At 92, Congress candidate Shamanur Shivashankarappa is the oldest candidate to contest the elections. He is contesting from Davanagere South Assembly constituency and is an industrialist-turned-politician.

5 rich candidates from Congress

Out of the top 10 richest candidates contesting this election, five are from Congress. Yousuf Shariff,Yousuf Shariff, N Nagaraju, D K Shivakumar, Priyakrishna INC, Suresha B S, N. A. Haris, H K Suresh, K. Narayan Raju JDS, Anil H Lad. eshpande Raghunath feature on the ten richest candidates list.

    The smallest constituency

    With 27,000 voters, Sringeri is the smallest constituency in Karnataka.

    Shirahatti factor

    All eyes would be on Shirahatti seat. There is a belief among the political pundits and the voters of Shirahatti that whoever wins this Assembly seat will go on to rule Karnataka. This has been the trend since 1972. It will be interesting to see whether the trend will continue this time as well.

    Kolar most-diversified constotuency

    Kolar looks to be one of the most diverse electoral constituencies. It has elected candidates from CPI, Republican Party of India, CPI(M), AIADMK, Bharatiya Republican Party, BJP and Congress in the past.
