Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Confirms No Cabinet Reshuffle Amid Dinner Speculations

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified on Friday that there are no imminent changes in the state's leadership or any cabinet reshuffle. Speculation arose following a dinner hosted by Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi for Siddaramaiah and his cabinet members. This gathering sparked rumours of significant political shifts, including the possibility of a new Congress state president replacing Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Siddaramaiah Rules Out Cabinet Changes in Karnataka

When questioned about the purpose of the dinner, Siddaramaiah responded, "What can I do if you speculate about our gathering over dinner as a meeting?" He emphasised that the event was merely for having meals and dismissed any notions of a change in leadership or cabinet reshuffle as false. "No such change is happening," he stated firmly.

Political Speculations and Reactions

The absence of Shivakumar, who was abroad at the time, fuelled rumours that the dinner aimed to discuss a new Congress president for Karnataka. Approximately 18 to 20 ministers and MLAs attended the gathering, according to Congress sources. Despite these speculations, State Social Welfare Minister H C Mahadevappa insisted that no political discussions took place during the dinner.

BJP MP and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar commented on the situation, suggesting internal conflicts within the Congress party. He claimed that Shivakumar is attempting to unseat Siddaramaiah due to his tarnished image from the MUDA scam. In turn, Siddaramaiah is allegedly trying to diminish Shivakumar's influence by removing him from the KPCC president's role.

Shivakumar's Leadership and Achievements

Shivakumar has held the position of Congress state president since March 2020. Under his leadership, the party achieved significant victories, securing 134 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 2023. The Congress also increased its Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka from one in 2019 to nine in 2024 and won all three seats in recent assembly bypolls.

Despite these achievements, Shettar predicted that internal strife could ultimately lead to the government's downfall. However, Mahadevappa dismissed such claims, reiterating that the dinner was purely social with no political agenda discussed.

The party high command often views Shivakumar as a reliable troubleshooter. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening Congress's position in Karnataka over recent years. The ongoing speculation highlights potential challenges within the party but also underscores Shivakumar's significant contributions.
