Karnataka Chief Minister Reviews Repair Work on Bengaluru's Damaged Roads

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Thursday that 459 km of Bengaluru's arterial and sub-arterial roads have been repaired this year. The city has a total of 1,611 km of such roads. The asphalting of an additional 659.71 km will commence in November.

CM Reviews Bengaluru Road Repairs

Road Repairs and Initiatives

The Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) has established a batch mix unit to expedite pothole repairs, particularly on major roads. Siddaramaiah stated that the road surface in Bengaluru often deteriorates due to the installation of BESCOM cables, water supply and sewerage pipes, GAIL gas pipes, high-capacity cables from Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), and optical fiber cables.

To address this issue, organisations responsible for these installations have been instructed to close the pits they dig. Coordination with other departments, including Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage, is also underway. Each ward has received a grant of Rs 15 lakh to tackle pothole problems.

Monitoring and Funding

Siddaramaiah highlighted the launch of a new app called Raste Gundi Mhantan, which allows residents to track the progress of road repairs. According to him, 1,376 potholes have been documented and repaired through this monitoring app. Additionally, Rs 1,700 crore has been allocated for the white-topping project for the fiscal year 2023-24 to further reduce potholes.

On Thursday, Siddaramaiah also engaged with Namma Metro passengers. He shared his experience on X, mentioning that he travelled by bus to inspect various developmental works and then took the metro back to Vidhana Soudha. "I met the passengers who travel in the metro daily and heard their experiences," he said.

The Chief Minister noted that the metro train is becoming essential for Bengaluru's traffic as it ensures timely travel without hassle. "Thus, our aim is to speed up the works and connect the metro to most areas of the city," Siddaramaiah added.

The BBMP's efforts in filling potholes were inspected by Siddaramaiah recently. He emphasised that these repairs are crucial for maintaining road quality in Bengaluru. The Chief Minister's office issued a statement confirming these developments.

In conclusion, significant steps are being taken to improve Bengaluru's road infrastructure. With ongoing repairs and future projects lined up, the city's road conditions are expected to see substantial improvements.
