Kamal Naths Pen Drive Claim Fails to Sway Court in Honey-Trap Case

Indore, March 2: A court in Indore dismissed an application filed by the defence regarding former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's alleged claim of possessing a pen drive containing evidence about a honey-trap racket.

Application Rejected

Judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari rejected the application, according to a prosecution officer. The court noted that the prosecution had not seized any pen drive or CD from Kamal Nath and the application was based on speculation.

Honey-Trap Racket

The honey-trap racket came to light in September 2019 when Nath was the chief minister. Five women and a driver were arrested in Bhopal and Indore in the case. Wealthy individuals and high-ranking government officials were allegedly blackmailed for money by a gang using young women.

SIT Notice to Kamal Nath

In 2021, after Nath was no longer the chief minister, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police served a notice to him regarding the honey-trap racket. Nath claimed that he had a pen drive containing information or evidence about the racket.

Accused Seek Details

The accused in the case moved the trial court recently seeking details of the steps taken by the SIT after issuing the notice to Nath. The prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the accused could not interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Court's Decision

After considering arguments from both sides, the court rejected the plea. The court noted that the prosecution had not seized any pen drive or CD from Kamal Nath and the application was based on speculation.

The dismissal of the application is a setback for the defence in the honey-trap racket case. The court's decision highlights the importance of concrete evidence in legal proceedings and the need for the investigation to proceed without interference.
