Kamal Hassan visits medical camp on his birthday

The actor, who has long been expected to join politics, will launch a mobile application today to connect with his fans.

Actor Kamal Haasan, who turns 63, on Tuesday, visited a medical camp set up by his fans in Chennai. He is likely to visit rain-affected areas.

During his visit, Kamal Hassan said, "There is no connection of this camp with politics but we could use this for politics."

"People have been commenting that I am dreaming big. I want to tell them that it is a dream which ultimately gets materialised, " he said.

"Government arranging water outlets in waterlogged areas. Equally important, medical camps detect diseases before it becomes an epidemic," he added.

In a gesture that could touch a chord with thousands of people distressed by the recent heavy rains in Chennai and beyond, Kamal Hassan cancelled his birthday bash.

The actor, who has long been expected to join politics, will launch a mobile application today to connect with his fans.

But the actor held back on the details of when he would launch his own party but said the application would be the first step in his political journey.

"This will be the first step. I'm confident that you will contribute funds to me generously as you have in the past for our welfare activities," Haasan said on Sunday at Kelambakkam to celebrate the 39th anniversary of his welfare association Kamal Haasan Narpani Iyakkam.

The mobile app, he said, will track all financial transactions.
