Justice Served: After 20 Years, Court Convicts Men for Attack on Kailash Satyarthi

Two individuals have been found guilty by a court in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, for assaulting Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and his associates during an effort to save young girls who were employed in a circus. The incident occurred in 2004.

A court in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, has convicted two men for attacking Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and others 20 years ago during an attempt to rescue minor girls working in a circus.

Landmark Verdict: Justice Prevails in Kailash Satyarthi Attack Case

Circus Owner and Manager Found Guilty

The court found Raza Mohammad Khan, the owner of Great Roman Circus, and its manager Shafi Khan guilty of the attack. The incident occurred in 2004 when Satyarthi, the founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, along with his son Bhuvan, associate Ramakant Rai, Rakesh Singh, and the police, attempted to rescue minor girls from the circus.

Compensation Ordered

The court directed that both Khan and Shafi be released on good-conduct probation for a year, subject to the condition that they do not break the law during this period. The court also ordered that a compensation of Rs 5,000 be paid to each of the four persons injured in the attack.

Satyarthi's Response

In a post on social media, Satyarthi expressed relief after the verdict, stating that after a 20-year-long legal battle, the owner and manager of the circus have been held guilty and convicted by the Gonda court.

The conviction of the two men brings closure to a long-standing legal battle and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals, especially children, from exploitation and abuse.
