K'taka: Yeddyurappa junks Prado to opt train to tour drought-hit places

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Facing the heat of colossal media glare, the BJP President B S Yeddyurappa (BSY) dumps the idea of touring drought-hit localities across the state in a gifted customised Prado car of worth RS 1 crore.

Newly appointed BJP president BSY faced flak from the state media and his detractors for accepting Toyota Prado as a gift given by sugar baron and former minister from BJP, Murugesh Nirani in the wake of his announcement to tour drought-hit districts.

Though BSY did not returned the gift to Nirani to the effect of media uproar, he said he won't be traveling in car to far away districts (distance calculated from Bengaluru), those are parched and reeling under severe drought. However he informed the press that he would opt rail as mode of journey to visit far away places as he loves to travel by train and use car for nearby districts.

"For touring the drought-hit districts, I will travel by train. I like to travel by train. Only for nearby districts, I'll use a car," he said. Yeddyurappa clarified the car was gifted by Nirani as it was meant for his safety. He will head out on the tour on April 27, and may travel in a 1st AC coach to Bidar.

On the other hand, he clarified that, he would be returning the car to Murugesh after his completion of 2-year tenure as BJP president.
