Junior Doctor Aniket Mahato Hospitalised Following Deterioration of Health During Hunger Strike
A doctor participating in a hunger strike was hospitalised on Thursday night after his health deteriorated, according to a senior medical professional. The doctor, Aniket Mahato, is one of seven individuals who have been fasting since Saturday evening. His condition worsened, prompting his transfer to RG Kar Hospital for intensive care, as reported by Dr. Subarna Goswami to a news channel.

Mahato has been actively involved in protests demanding justice for a colleague who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital. This agitation has been ongoing for two months. Another doctor involved in the protest mentioned that Mahato's pulse rate was alarmingly low, and other health indicators were also concerning.
Health Assessment by Medical Team
A team of four specialist doctors was dispatched by the state health department to evaluate the health of the seven junior doctors on hunger strike in the Esplanade area. "We came here to assess their health situation," said Diptendra Sarkar, a member of the medical team. He added that it is expected their health would decline after five days without food.
Sarkar further stated, "We are like their parents, and as elders, we have suggested that they should be admitted to a hospital before their condition worsens." The medical team emphasised the importance of hospitalisation to prevent further deterioration of their health.
Protests Amid Festivities
The junior doctors have continued their hunger strike for five days, coinciding with Durga Puja celebrations across West Bengal. Their protest is centred around seeking justice for the alleged rape and murder incident involving their colleague at RG Kar Hospital.
The ongoing strike highlights the doctors' determination to bring attention to their cause despite the festive season. The situation remains tense as they persist in their demand for justice.
The hunger strike underscores the gravity of the situation and the doctors' commitment to seeking accountability for the alleged crime. As events unfold, the focus remains on ensuring the well-being of those involved in the protest while addressing their demands.
