Jungle Raj in West Bengal: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Slams TMC Rule

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal accuses the TMC government in West Bengal of fostering a jungle raj and deteriorating law and order, sparking a political debate.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has alleged that a "jungle raj" is prevailing in West Bengal, claiming that the law and order situation has worsened under the rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Sonowal's statement comes in the wake of the recent incident where three Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials were assaulted during a raid at the residence of a TMC leader implicated in a ration distribution scam.

West Bengals Lawless State: Sonowals Jungle Raj Charge Against TMC

Sonowal's Criticism of TMC Rule

Speaking on the sidelines of a program in Kolkata, Sonowal expressed his concern about the state of affairs in West Bengal. He stated, "Jungle raj is going on in West Bengal. There is a completely lawless situation. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, the country is moving towards the path of development and growth, but in Bengal under the TMC regime, it is just moving backwards."

TMC's Response to the Allegations

The TMC responded to Sonowal's comments by urging him to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh asserted, "The law and order situation in Bengal is much better than other states of the country. Kolkata on several occasions has been adjudged the country's safest city for years as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)."

ED Officials Attacked During Raid

Last Friday, three ED officers were injured, and several of their vehicles were vandalized when hundreds of supporters of TMC leader Sahajahan Sheikh attacked them. The assault occurred during the ED team's raid on Sheikh's house in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district in connection with alleged irregularities in the ration distribution system.

The allegations of deteriorating law and order in West Bengal have sparked a debate between the BJP and the TMC. The incident involving the assault on ED officials has further intensified the scrutiny of the state's law enforcement mechanisms. It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the political landscape of West Bengal and the upcoming elections in the state.
