July 27 Weather Alert: IMD Sounds Red Alert for Rajasthan, MP & Gujarat, Orange for 10 States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat on July 27, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas. In addition, an orange alert has been issued for Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh, indicating the possibility of significant rain, thunderstorms, and localized flooding.

These alerts come after a day of severe weather across multiple regions. In Kerala, strong winds and torrential rains caused widespread damage. Trees were uprooted, vehicles and homes were damaged, and power lines were snapped, leading to outages. Several areas were waterlogged as rivers rose to dangerous levels, flooding low-lying regions and cutting off road access. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district reported a landslide, further intensifying concerns about monsoon-related hazards.
The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat on July 27, and over East Rajasthan on both July 27 and 28. Wet weather is expected to persist in Rajasthan until July 30, while other states will also continue to see rain in the coming days. The department noted isolated very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh on July 29, Uttarakhand on July 27 and 28, and West Uttar Pradesh on July 28. Karnataka is predicted to receive isolated heavy showers through August 1, while Tamil Nadu is expected to experience similar conditions on July 27. Kerala and Mahe are likely to see continued rain from July 27 to 30.
In Delhi-NCR, the weather will remain generally cloudy, with chances of very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 30 to 35°C, while the minimum temperature will remain around 26 to 28°C. The IMD also issued a nowcast warning at 6:40 AM, predicting light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in several areas, including Alipur, Bawana, Burari, Rohini, Pitampura, Civil Lines, Delhi University, Vasant Kunj, R K Puram, and around IGI Airport. These areas are likely to experience fresh rain spells within a two-hour window.
The IMD has urged residents across affected states to stay alert, especially in vulnerable and flood-prone areas. With the monsoon season in full swing, weather conditions can change rapidly. Citizens are advised to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during downpours, and take precautions to stay safe from flooding, lightning, and other potential disruptions.
