JNU row: Plea seeking cancellation of Kanaihya Kumar's bail adjourned

New Delhi, Mar 17: The Delhi High Court will hear the plea which sought cancellation of bail granted to JNU student leader Kanaihya Kumar on March 23.

The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court before whom the matter came has adjourned hearing on the matter to March 23.

Court adjourns plea over Kanhaiya's bail

A batch of petitions had been filed before Justice Prathibha Rani seeking cancellation of the 6 month interim bail granted to Kumar who is facing sedition charges.

The petitioners said that after he had been granted bail, he had delivered a speech at the JNU campus which they felt was anti national. He had violated the bail term which clearly stated he should not indulge in anti national activity and hence the same be cancelled, the petitioners argued.

Incidentally the matter came before Justice Prathibha Rani who had granted Kanaihya Kumar conditional bail. During the hearing Justice Rani said that if she found the arguments and petitions to be frivolous in nature then she the petitioners would be slapped with costs.

The counsel took objection to the same and said that the court should not warn him like that. I am national of India and have every right to point out if I feel there is something wrong.

The petitioner said if this was the thinking then the matter be posted before another bench. Justice Rani referred the matter to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court for hearing.
