JMM's Hemant Soren Meets Governor, Claims Support to Form Next Government in Jharkhand

Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is poised to begin his second consecutive term as Chief Minister after his alliance clinched a commanding win in the Jharkhand assembly elections. The JMM-led coalition amassed 56 seats out of 81, a clear majority that underscored their dominance in the state politics, against the BJP-led NDA's 24 seats. This victory not only reaffirms Soren's leadership but also represents a significant setback for the BJP and its allies, who had mounted a vigorous campaign.

The triumph was announced on a Saturday, with the JMM itself securing 34 seats, while its allies, including the Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML, contributed 22 seats to the alliance's tally. The Congress emerged victorious in 16 constituencies, the RJD in four, and the CPI-ML in two, showcasing the collective effort that led to this significant political win. In contrast, the BJP managed to win 21 seats, with its partners, the AJSU Party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD(U), each securing a single seat.

Following the victory, Soren met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar to formally stake his claim to form the government. This meeting came after he resigned from his previous term as Chief Minister, a procedural step before assuming office once again. "I have staked claim to form the government and have handed over the support letter of alliance partners to the governor. He invited us to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on November 28," Soren stated. His reelection as the leader of the INDIA bloc in Jharkhand by unanimous decision further solidified his position, with Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay affirming the unanimous support from party workers and leaders.

Soren's personal victory in the Barhait seat by a significant margin of 39,791 votes over BJP candidate Gamliyel Hembrom showcased his popularity in the state. Garnering 95,612 votes against Hembrom's 55,821, Soren's win reflects the trust and support he enjoys among the electorate. This victory marks a continuation of his leadership in Jharkhand, a state established on November 15, 2000, from Bihar.

His upcoming tenure as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand, beginning with the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for November 28, is highly anticipated. Soren's leadership and the JMM-led alliance's clear mandate present an opportunity to address the state's challenges and aspirations.
