Jharkhand Government Rolls Out New Safety Measures for Foreign Tourists
In a significant move to enhance the safety of foreign tourists in Jharkhand, the state government has introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This initiative, presented to the high court on Tuesday, aims to bolster security measures following a distressing incident involving the alleged gangrape of a Spanish tourist in Dumka.

The draft SOP, scrutinized by the bench of Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar, encompasses a variety of safety mechanisms. Notably, it includes two dedicated helpline numbers and a specially designed app with an SOS feature, ensuring immediate assistance is just a tap away for tourists in need.
According to the state's counsel, this enhanced safety net is not limited to foreign nationals but extends to all visitors in Jharkhand. Upon entering the state, tourists are required to register their identification at the first police outpost they encounter. This data will then be logged into a centralized database, allowing for efficient monitoring by government authorities and providing tourists with guided assistance to their destinations.
The court has scheduled the next hearing on this matter for April 4. This development comes in the wake of an alarming incident last month where a tourist from Spain fell victim to gangrape in Jharkhand's Dumka district. The introduction of the SOP is a critical step towards ensuring that such incidents do not recur and that Jharkhand remains a safe and welcoming destination for international visitors.
The establishment of these safety measures reflects the government's commitment to safeguarding tourists and enhancing their travel experience within the state. With the implementation of the SOP, Jharkhand aims to reassure international visitors of their security, encouraging more people to explore the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty that the state has to offer.
