Jharkhand Elections 2024: EC Accepts JMM Govt's Proposal To Appoint Alka Tiwari As Chief Secretary
The Election Commission has given its nod to the Jharkhand government's recommendation to name Alka Tiwari as the new chief secretary of the state, which is gearing up for its assembly elections. Scheduled to occur in two segments, the elections are set for November 13 and November 20. Tiwari, a distinguished member of the 1988 batch, is recognized as the most senior IAS officer within the cadre, marking a significant step in her career.
Prior to Tiwari's appointment, the Election Commission had approved a request to extend the service of the former chief secretary, Lalbiaktluanga Khiangte, by five months. This decision underscores the Commission's active role in ensuring that the state's administration is led by experienced individuals during the crucial election period.

The transition in the chief secretary's position comes at a pivotal time, as Jharkhand prepares for its upcoming assembly polls. Alka Tiwari's vast experience and leadership qualities are expected to steer the state through the electoral process, ensuring a smooth and efficient administration. Her appointment reflects the Election Commission's commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process by placing seasoned professionals in key administrative roles.
