Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren Arrested By ED; Champai Soren Set To Take Over
As per the latest update, the former Jharkhand CM was arrested at 9.33 pm on Wednesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED)
Action against Soren was taken after questioning him in a 'land scam'.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren submitted his resignation to the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, on Wednesday, amidst concerns that the Enforcement Directorate might arrest him.
He was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate this evening, minutes after quitting the post. Section 144 was imposed near his residence. The leader of the legislative party, Champai Soren, a senior cabinet minister in the JMM government, has been elected and nominated for the CM post, as reported by ANI.
Who is going to fill Hemant Soren's shoe?
In a meeting conducted last night, two blank papers were signed by MLAs supporting the Soren government, with one bearing the name of Hemant's wife, Kalpana Soren, and the other of Champai Soren. The name Champai Soren was officially confirmed for the CM post after he was elected the leader of the legislative party.
Champai Soren, a senior minister in the Jharkhand government led by Hemant Soren, is the eldest son of Simal Soren, a farmer from the Jilinggoda village in the Saraikela-Kharsawan district.
He has been actively involved in farm work alongside his father and received education up to the 10th grade from a government school. During this period, he entered into marriage at a young age and became the father of four sons and three daughters.
When demands for a separate state of Jharkhand arose in the late '90s, active participation in the Jharkhand movement and gaining fame as the 'Jharkhand Tiger' were attributed to Champai, along with Shibu Soren.
Subsequently, Champai Soren's political career was initiated by becoming an independent MLA through a by-election in his Saraikela seat. Later, he joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), reported Zee News.
In the government led by BJP leader Arjun Munda, Champai Soren was appointed Cabinet Minister, holding crucial ministries during this period. Champai served as a minister from September 11, 2010, to January 18, 2013.
After that, the President's rule was imposed, and then, under the leadership of Hemant Soren, Champai Soren became the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Transport in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha government.
