Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024: Soren Claims BJP is Dividing People by Religion And Caste
In Ranchi, Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has launched a scathing attack on the BJP, claiming the party is inciting communal discord by exploiting caste and religious differences. During a government event, he highlighted that BJP figures currently visible across the state will vanish post the upcoming assembly elections. In this same setting, Soren announced a significant financial move, clearing Rs 400 crore worth of agricultural loans for approximately 1.77 lakh farmers, building on a previous initiative that cleared up to Rs 50,000 for nearly 4.73 lakh farmers. This step forward broadens the scope of relief, now including farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh.

Soren's criticisms extend beyond the local political landscape, targeting the BJP-led Central government's policies, which he argues have jeopardized Jharkhand's essential resources—its water, forests, and land—for over two decades. With elections on the horizon, he observes an influx of BJP leaders into the state, many of whom are new faces to the public, predicting their disappearance post-elections. “They are spreading communal tension and provoking people in the name of caste and religion. Beware of them,” he cautioned, emphasizing the transient nature of these political operatives' interest in the state's welfare.
The Chief Minister did not hold back on his accusations, alleging that the Central government had underhanded plans to sell out the country's farmers through the controversial farm laws. According to Soren, the persistent protests by farmers, which lasted around a year, were instrumental in getting the laws repealed. He criticized the Centre's priorities, highlighting a disparity in financial allocation that favored waiving loans for "capitalist friends" over enhancing farmers' incomes, raising the Minimum Support Price (MSP), or empowering women.
Under Soren's leadership, the state government has reportedly made significant strides in catering to the needs of all societal segments, ensuring the provision of essentials like food, clothing, and shelter. "We have waived farm loans, electricity dues and made consumption of electricity free up to 200 units," Soren stated, outlining his administration's efforts towards alleviating financial burdens on residents.
However, Soren also shared his grievances against the BJP, accusing it of disrupting his administration for two years. He claimed that following their unsuccessful attempts to destabilize his government, they resorted to imprisoning him on baseless charges. This statement paints a picture of a political landscape fraught with tension and oppositional tactics aimed at undermining governance.
