Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024: PM Modi Says Population Of Hindus, Adivasis On Decline

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to Hazaribagh, Jharkhand on October 2, 2024, expressed concerns about the declining Hindu and Adivasi populations in the state. He accused the JMM-led coalition government of engaging in "vote bank politics" by supporting infiltrators, which he claimed threatened Jharkhand's identity and culture.

Modi emphasised the need for change in Jharkhand to protect "mati, beti, roti" (land, daughter, bread) and combat corruption. He criticised the current government for endangering local traditions while allegedly supporting outsiders. His remarks were made at the conclusion of the BJP's Parivartan Yatra.

Parivartan Yatra's Journey

The Parivartan Yatra covered around 5,400 km across all 81 assembly segments in Jharkhand. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had initiated this campaign on September 20 from Sahibganj. The yatra aimed to reach every assembly seat in the state's 24 districts.

During his visit, Modi interacted with large crowds from an open vehicle and engaged with tribal community members. Women presented him with a 'kalash' filled with soil collected during the Parivartan Yatra as a symbol of their commitment to safeguarding "mati, beti, roti."

Political Climate

This was Modi's second visit to Jharkhand within two weeks as elections for the 81-member Assembly approach. The current Vidhan Sabha's tenure is set to end on January 5. The BJP is actively campaigning to gain support ahead of these elections.

Modi also criticised the coalition government for its insensitivity towards recruitment drives for excise constables that resulted in several aspirants' deaths. He urged people to reject such governance and support change.

The BJP's campaign efforts are intensifying as they seek to challenge the ruling coalition in Jharkhand. Modi's speeches aim to rally support by highlighting issues like cultural preservation and governance failures.

The Prime Minister's visit underscores the importance of Jharkhand in upcoming elections. His focus on local issues reflects BJP's strategy to connect with voters by addressing their concerns directly.
