Jharkhand is on the brink of its Assembly elections for the 81-member house, setting the stage for an inclusive and participative electoral process. The Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand, K. Ravi Kumar, highlighted the state's achievement of 100% voter enrollment among Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), bringing 1.78 lakh voters from eight PVTGs into the electoral fold. This move underscores the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring that every segment of society is represented and has a voice in the upcoming elections. The total number of electors in the state has reached approximately 2.59 crore, with the assembly's current term set to end on January 5, 2025.
The Election Commission's dedication to a fair and transparent election in Jharkhand was further emphasized during a review of the poll preparedness in Ranchi. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S.S. Sandhu, stressed the importance of a zero-tolerance policy towards the misuse of money in the electoral process. Their meetings with political parties, security forces, and other stakeholders on September 23 and 24 were aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all candidates and parties involved.

Efforts to Enhance Electoral Participation
The commission's efforts to enhance voter registration and participation are evident in the numbers. Jharkhand now boasts over 2.59 crore registered electors, with women voters accounting for roughly half of this total. The state has also seen a significant number of registrations among first-time voters aged 18-19, totaling more than 11.05 lakh. Additionally, the inclusion of over 1.14 lakh senior citizens aged 85 and above, along with 3.64 lakh voters with disabilities, demonstrates the EC's focus on making the elections accessible to all demographics. Remarkably, the state has more than 1,845 centenarian voters, showcasing the diverse age range of the electorate.
M.S. Ramachandra Rao's recent swearing-in as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court adds another layer of significance to the state's political and judicial landscape as it prepares for the assembly elections. This development, coupled with the comprehensive electoral preparations, underscores the state's readiness for a democratic exercise that reflects the will of its diverse populace.
Comprehensive Voter Enrollment and Revision Processes
The completion of the second Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the state's electoral roll, with July 1, 2024, as the qualifying date, marks a critical step towards ensuring an updated and accurate voter list. Published on August 27, the revised electoral roll was distributed to political parties, affirming the Election Commission's commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement in the electoral process. This meticulous preparation not only facilitates a smoother election process but also reinforces the integrity of the electoral system.
As the state gears up for the elections with a meticulously prepared electoral roll and a focus on inclusivity, the Election Commission's stringent stance against the influence of money power sends a strong message. The commission's proactive approach in engaging with various stakeholders and its emphasis on ensuring the participation of vulnerable and marginalized groups reflect a comprehensive strategy to uphold the democratic ethos.
In conclusion, Jharkhand's electoral preparations, marked by significant achievements in voter enrollment and an unwavering commitment to fair play, set a precedent for future elections. The state's readiness, from the inclusion of PVTGs and diverse demographics to the stringent measures against electoral malpractices, illustrates the Election Commission's dedication to a democratic process that is both inclusive and transparent.
