Jharkhand Accident: Truck Overturns On School Auto-Rickshaw, 3 Children And Driver Killed

In Jharkhand's Gola area, three school children and an auto-rickshaw driver lost their lives after a potato-laden truck overturned onto the vehicle carrying children.

The accident, which took place around 8:30 AM near Tirla Chowk, also left several other children injured. The auto-rickshaw was crossing National Highway 33 when the truck collided with it, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Jharkhand Accident: Details of the Incident

The truck, transporting potatoes, struck the auto-rickshaw as it crossed the highway near Damodar Hotel, close to Tirla Chowk, under the jurisdiction of Gola Police Station. The collision resulted in the deaths of the driver and three school children, while more than half a dozen others sustained injuries. The injured children have been rushed to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital for medical treatment. According to the police, the children were on their way to Goodwill Mission School at the time of the accident.

Truck Overturns On School Auto-Rickshaw: Investigation Underway

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Kumar confirmed the tragic incident and stated that authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident. An initial investigation revealed that the auto-rickshaw driver may have failed to check both sides of the road while crossing the highway. The truck driver attempted to avoid the collision, but the auto had already entered the path of the oncoming vehicle. Despite efforts to prevent the crash, the truck struck the auto-rickshaw, leading to the fatal accident, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Questions Over School Operations Amid Cold Wave

In the wake of this incident, questions have been raised about the functioning of schools despite the School Education and Literacy Department's order to keep all schools closed until January 13 due to the ongoing cold wave. SP Ajay Kumar confirmed that this matter is also under investigation. The tragic accident has sparked further concerns, especially given the department's directive to close schools during the cold weather to ensure the safety of students, as per media reports.
