Jewar Airport News: First Test Flight Lands At Noida International Airport; Civil Aviation Minister Reacts

The Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, has successfully completed its first flight validation test. An IndiGo aircraft took off from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and landed at the new airport after undergoing security checks. The plane was greeted with a water salute upon arrival. This milestone marks a significant step towards the airport's operational launch, scheduled for April next year.

Located in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, this airport will be the second major one in the National Capital Region (NCR), following the IGI Airport. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu expressed pride in the project's progress, stating, "This was a prestigious project. Today the landing of the plane was a great achievement."

Development and Future Plans

The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. The Noida International Airport Limited is overseeing implementation on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid its foundation stone in November 2021.

In its initial phase, the airport will accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually. This number is expected to rise to 3 crore by decade's end and reach 7 crore in subsequent years. Initially, one runway will be operational, with plans for two runways eventually.
Infrastructure and Connectivity

The terminal will feature 10 aerobridges and three bus gates when it opens. Initially, there will be 28 aircraft spots in the apron area, expanding to 200 as passenger numbers grow. The airport is connected to Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi via the signal-free Yamuna Expressway.

Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann expressed gratitude towards various authorities for their support. "We completed the work in record time together," he said, acknowledging contributions from the Civil Aviation Ministry and others.

A Gateway to Tourism

This airport aims to serve as a gateway to North India's tourist attractions like the Taj Mahal and Hindu pilgrimage sites such as Chardham Yatra and Kumbh Mela. It also connects to Buddhist circuits including Sravasti, Kapilavastu, and Kushinagar.

The total project area spans 1,334 hectares. As operations commence next year with one runway active initially, this development signifies a major advancement for regional connectivity and tourism.
