JD(S) aims at the 123 mark, promises to throw out Amul, restore Muslim quota
The Muslim reservation issue has become a big one in the Karnataka elections. The BJP government had scrapped the four per cent reservation quota for the Muslims and divided it equally between the Vokkaligas and Lingayats, the two most dominant communities in the poll bound state of Karnataka.
While the Congress has said that it would reverse this decision, if it comes to power, the Janata Dal (S) too has decided to make this an issue. The JD(S) released its "Janata Pranalike" (People's Manifesto) for the May 10 elections and promised to restore four per cent reservation for the Muslims. It has also assured that it would throw out Amul and save the Nandini brand.

The party went on to add that it would reserve jobs for the Kannadigas in the private sector and provide free-higher education for the economically-weaker students.
Both the Nandini and reservation issues have become a major poll plank in Karnataka. The Congress and JD(S) have been targeting the BJP over these issues.
Furthermore the JD(S) which styles itself as the protectors of farmers in Karnataka has announced the 'Raita Bandhu' scheme, which promises to provide Rs 2,000 to agricultural labour families every month. It also said that girls who marry youths who are farmers will be given financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh.
The JD(S) has also promised in its manifesto Rs 6,000 for pregnant women for six months, a loan waiver for 'Stree Shakti' self-help groups, pension for Anganwadi workers, Rs 2,000 a month for auto drivers, Rs 2,000 for registered security guards and up to Rs 25 lakh for treatment of rare diseases under the CM relief fund.
The party has said that it would launch a separate manifesto for Bengaluru city in the coming days.
The party has set a target of winning 123 seats in the upcoming elections. The magic number to form the government is 113.
