JD (U) rubbishes rumours of Sharad Yadav supporting Lalu

Lalu had on Thursday said he was in touch with senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav.

With Lalu Prasad Yadav trying to project that Sharad Yadav may support him, the Janata Dal (United) on Friday said the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief was making such claims because he is upset at being shunted out of power in Bihar.

Senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav

Lalu had on Thursday said he was in touch with senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav and would discuss with him the formation of a "formidable" front against the BJP.

JD(U) leader Sunil Kumar Singh Told ANI that Lalu was unnecessarily dragging Sharad Yadav into something that was not possible.

"He thinks that he (Sharad Yadav) will leave the JD(U) and join the RJD. But this is not going to happen," Singh said.

"Sharadji has always fought against the BJP and the RSS. He is pro-poor and pro-minorities. He is coming to Patna on August 8 and I will discuss with him the next course of action to form a formidable anti-BJP front in the country," Lalu had said in Ranchi on Thursday.

When asked to comment on the party's decision to break away from the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar by reporters outside Parliament, Sharad had said, "Whatever happened is very unfortunate, the mandate by the people was not for this."

JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan held Lalu solely responsible for Nitish Kumar walking out of the alliance. He said Lalu should have shunned "affection for his son" and asked Tejashwi Yadav to resign.

"He can talk to whoever he wants to, but we believe that Sharad Yadav will be with us always," Ranjan told ANI.

Last week, JD(U) chief Nitish while announcing his resignation as the CM of the state decided to leave the Grand Alliance. The Grand Alliance was formed by the JD(U), the RJD and the Congress before the Bihar Assembly elections in 2015 to fight against the might of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
