New TN CM sworn in, breaks down for Amma
Chennai, Sept 29: O Panneerselvam, a known loyalist of Jayalalithaa, sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Monday, Sept 29. The new CM of the state is popularly known as OPS.

While taking oath, Panneerselvam broke down as he has been compelled to replace his Amma (Jayalalithaa) who currently has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore. [Read: Who is Pannerselvam]

Earlier on Sunday, AIADMK MLAs held an emergency meeting in Chennai and decided that Panneerselvam, who was the Finance Minister of the state, would be Jayalalithaa's successor.

OPS earlier on Sunday morning met Jayalalithaa at Bangalore prison, then he rushed back to Chennai to attend the meeting which was held later in the evening.

Jayalalithaa and three of her aides were convicted and sentenced to jail for four years. Jayalalalithaa also has been imposed a fined of Rs 100 crore.

A special court in Bangalore found the four guilty in a 18-year-old disproportionate assets case. They have been convicted of accumulating Rs 66.6 crore wealth disproportionate to known sources of her income from 1991-96 in Jayalalithaa's first term as Chief Minister.
