Jayalalithaa case: Hearing in SC postponed to Feb 24

New Delhi, Jan 29: The day to day hearing the J Jayalalithaa disproportionate assets case will now be taken up by the Supreme Court on February 23.

The case was original slated for February 2 and was to be heard on a day to day basis. The adjournment was sought on the ground that the that hearing on the case relating to the imposition of President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh is being heard and the same could spill over into that date/

The adjournment was sought by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The Bench which is headed by Justice P C Ghose agreed to postpone the matter for February 23 since the matter Arunachal Pradesh matter is slated for February 1. The adjournment was sought on the ground that the matter could spill over the next day too.

Karnataka had filed an appeal against the acquittal of Jayalalithaa and others. THe Karnataka High Court had acquitted her in the disproportionate assets case. This was challenged in a batch of appeals by the Karnataka government. Jayalalithaa had questioned the locus standi of Karnataka to file the appeals.
