Jayalalithaa fails to affix her signature, puts thumb impression on election papers
Reports say Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has signed-off poll-related papers with thumb print, as she is nursing an inflamed right hand.
Chennai, Oct 29: According to media reports, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday put only her thumb impression and did not sign on nomination papers of three candidates from AIADMK, contesting the upcoming assembly by-elections in the state.
The 68-year-old AIADMK supremo is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road in Chennai, since September 22.

"The signatory is presently hospitalised in Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai. Since the signatory has undergone tracheotomy recently and has an inflamed right hand, she is temporally unable to affix her signature. Hence, she has affixed her left thumb impression on her own in my presence," said an attestation signed by Dr P Balaji of Madras Medical College.
The three AIADMK candidates filed their nominations for Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thirupparankundram assembly segments.
According to a report published by The Times of India, as per election rules, the candidates from a recognised party should get forms filled and signed by the head of the party.
The ruling AIADMK on Wednesday said party supremo Jayalalithaa is "very well" and will return home soon.
"She is very well. God is by her side. She will come home soon," party spokesperson CR Saraswathy said.
