Police Sub-Inspector Suspended for Negligence in Gangsters Murder

In a significant development, a sub-inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was suspended on Tuesday, March 12, for alleged negligence in connection with the murder of a gangster from Jammu in Punjab's Mohali last week. The incident has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of police surveillance and monitoring of known criminals.

Departmental Inquiry Initiated

In addition to the suspension of the sub-inspector, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against two other police personnel in connection with the incident. The probe aims to ascertain the extent of negligence and identify any lapses in following prescribed protocols.

Gangster Murder in Mohali

The incident in question involves the murder of gangster Rajesh Dogra, who hailed from Jammu and had recently been released from jail. On March 4, Dogra was killed in broad daylight in Mohali by members of a rival gang, highlighting the brazenness of criminal activities in the region.

Suspension of Sub-Inspector

In an official order issued by Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vinod Kumar, sub-inspector Mushtaq Ahmad, posted at the Sarwal police post, was shifted to the district police lines and placed under immediate suspension. The action was taken due to his alleged negligence in failing to monitor the movements of the gangster outside Jammu and Kashmir.

Departmental Inquiry Extended

The departmental inquiry has been further extended to include the Bakshi Nagar SHO and the Sarwal police post in-charge. The investigation will be conducted by the superintendent of police headquarters to ensure a thorough and impartial probe.

Protocol Violations

SSP Vinod Kumar emphasized that despite clear protocols outlined in the Jammu and Kashmir Police manual, neither the beat officer nor the Bakshi Nagar Police Station SHO took appropriate action to keep a close watch on the history-sheeter. This failure to adhere to prescribed guidelines contributed to the lapse in security that ultimately led to the gangster's murder.

The suspension of the sub-inspector and the initiation of a departmental inquiry underscore the seriousness with which the Jammu and Kashmir Police are treating this case. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and strict adherence to protocols in preventing criminal activities and ensuring public safety.
